I wanted a cute tablecloth - but I couldn't find any color combo of pink and gray. So I decided to buy some fabric at Jo-Ann's and out of the corner of my eye, I found these 2 bolts of fabric in the sale section. $4 a yard and it was imported from Japan! Since I still can't sew and didn't want to figure it out in a few days, I taped the fabric down to the table. It's not that pretty underneath but I knew my friends would focus on the food and decor on top. I had 2 low tables in the family room for guests to eat on [we call them Korean tables as I've only seen them in Korean households]. It was nice to cover the ornate black tables for the afternoon.
I found more pink fabric to cover a regular box I found sitting around the house. I basically wrapped it like a present, only it didn't have a bottom and wrapped a gray bow around the top for some added color.
I made [1] egg salad sandwiches, [2] sesame chicken salad, [3] mini chocolate cupcakes, [4] bacon-wrapped asparagus, [5] korean-fused spring rolls, [6] puffed pastry shells with crab salad, [7] meatballs, veggies with spinach dip, and green tea cheesecake.
Recipes:
[1] egg salad: hard-boiled eggs, mayo, mustard, black pepper
[5] korean-fused spring rolls: green-leafed lettuce, asian clear vermicelli noodles, pre-sliced carrot strips, pickled cucumbers, fried eggs, korean-style marinated beef, asian wraps
[6] crab salad: japanese crabmeat, mayo, black pepper
[7] meatballs: frozen meatballs, spicy brown mustard, grape jelly
green tea cheesecake: secret recipe from a catering friend
I wish I had another 5-10 hours and could have spruced things up just a little bit more. :)
