penelope’s first birthday

a 20 lb bag of rice

The bride wanted an alternative option to the regular tent folded place cards but didn’t want something too elaborate that would confuse guests. We decided to use trays and fill the base with rice so that the place cards would stand at about an 115 angle or so. When we first told the venue that we’ll be dropping off some items along with a bag of 20 pound rice, they immediately informed us that we could not throw any rice inside the venue (or outside, for that matter). Once we told them that wanted to use it for the place card setting, they relaxed a bit and said it wouldn’t be a problem!

The floral designer placed a beautiful arrangement of flowers leaning towards the left just as the bride desired to give the feel of an orchid plant that was used throughout the reception room. Vale of Enna graciously snapped some photos and sent them to me as well! It was quite beautiful with the sun shining ever so brightly to greet guests when they exited the ceremony.

Can’t wait to see the other shots from the photographers!

happy valentine’s day!

I’m seeing pink and valentine’s goodies everywhere in the past few days! LOVE is really all around!

I usually send cards to my single girlfriends because after all it’s a LOVE day – whether it’s a significant other or a dear friend. But this year, I missed Christmas/holiday cards and decided to send these out instead! I made 2 for everybody… 1 from me to them and 1 to give away. I figure the best gift is one that you can pass along! The fill-in-the blank is easy too because sometimes, you just don’t have the right words to say. I realized I forgot to include an ‘I Miss You’ slot… especially for my friends far away, but not to fear, there’s a blank spot too for a quick note!

Happy love day everyone! For some reason, I’m feeling an extra dose of love these days! I have a few more, but I realized by the time I posted this, it might be too late… in any case, if you need a few extra cards, let me know and I’ll send some out as soon as possible (maybe you can send some belated love!)

typeface + cookies… simply divine! I think all of the alphabet cookie cutters I’ve found are teeny… oh, what wonderful cookies you could make (favors, invitations, party decor!) Beverly, please create some more.. I’d love to order a set!

giving thanks

We were in charge of dessert and made a little spread. I started to freak out a little bit on the night before Thanksgiving because nobody seemed to have any canned pumpkin which was quite crucial for the mini pumpkin cheesecakes. After 3 stores, we found 3 cans which was JUST ENOUGH… phew. It was long night… we barely made it out as friends… haha… I think we may want to make the entire Thanksgiving dinner next time instead of baking!

dwell studio books

I had to stop by Babies R Us tonight for a last minute gift. [I’m finally figuring out my way around the store… seriously, a map like Ikea would be very helpful!] I think I walked up and down each aisle and just couldn’t find anything so I went with the usual books – Good Night Moon and Brown Bear Brown Bear. Believe it or not, they were sold out of the Very Hungry Caterpillar!

But a little further down, I found these books by Dwell Studio! They make such great products from baby to home products! I think I liked them because they are soft and not your typical kid books with primary colors.

ps… It took me a while to hunt down these images but remembered that they were published by Blue Apple Books. What a cute website!

cirque du bebe: un [1]

My friend is having her baby in November, but is also moving moved away to California this month, so we thought it would be best to have her shower before she left. We brainstormed and all she requested was to have a cotton candy machine. Well, one thing led to another and before you know it, cirque du bebe was born. I thought it was a little classier than a baby circus!

happy first birthday auggie!

Back in early July, Auggie celebrated his first birthday [dohl] and I had the pleasure of some of the setup for his special event!

Just a bit of background information: Koreans believe that you can ‘predestine’ your future. Parents will line up a few objects and whatever object the child chooses, is his/her destiny. Here are some of the traditional items:

thread: a long life
jujube: many children
book, pencil, brush: scholar
ruler: talented with hands
money or rice: wealth

Nowadays, many parents add in modern items such as a golf club or a microphone.

I’ll have to find my pictures from my first birthday and post those up sometime!
