friends + cupcakes

An old friend from college is in town and we got together for a very early dinner + dessert. We just happened to stop by Phoebe’s Cupcakes and I have to say that this is my FAVORITE cupcake place now! Imagine the density of pound cake and the fluffiness of whip cream plus unusual but familiar flavors. We had just eaten dinner but devoured these in no time! I think my favorite was the Salted Caramel: left.

Their menu: it’s pretty reasonable considering most cupcakes I’ve seen lately are around $3 or more. Plus the cater for parties/events/weddings!

Can you see how barren their display case is? Go early! I talked to one of their employees and she said that they usually run out before the day is over.

3 + Ravinia for free!

I won 2 raffle tickets at my library a few weeks ago… [see why I love the library so?] and my other friend is a teacher… so we all went to Ravinia for free!

It was a lot of fun! CSO played Tchaikovsky and it was pretty renown music. [Nutcracker in July is just as good as December!]. I think one of the highlights was when we saw 2 little girls dancing away to the music. There’s something so sweet and carefree about being silly and dancing like nobody’s watching, you know?

 

the spread:  it was a smorgasbord… fried rice + kim bop + edamame + egg omelet + egg rolls + a variation of a spring roll + banana-walnut-chocolate chip cookies. We were only missing some fruit!  I think it’s a given now that no trip to Ravinia is complete without a C&B table. I purchased mine many years ago and it comes handy every time I go!

It was a perfect day to attend! The weather was very mild and actually a little chilly in the shade. I had a chance to lie down and saw this image in the sky. Sometimes nice fluffy clouds or clear skies are nice. But I just like the sky, even with some crazy messy clouds.

It was a nice relaxing way to spend a Sunday afternoon. [Plus, I bumped into a few friends!] If you are ever in the Chicago land area during the summer, Ravinia is a must!

the circus!

My friend and I spontaneously decided to see Cirque Shanghai a few weekends ago at Navy Pier. [I imagined really young children, but I think the youngest was probably in their teens. This was a bit of a relief to me because during my trip to Korea, my parents saw them and they were surprised at how young the children were… some of them looked like they were 5!]

It was a lot of fun. I tried to take pictures, but my faulty camera + no flash created very quality pictures. Here’s one picture that barely made the cut. I’m amazed at their flexibility and crazy stunts!

Afterwards, we stuck around for the fireworks. While waiting for them to begin, I saw the ferris wheel peek out behind this building.

I love watching fireworks! Unfortunately, my camera battery died before I could take any shots, but it was fun just to watch! *I forgot how many people gather for the fireworks at Navy Pier… every Wednesday and Saturday through the summer!

I met Jess and Megan last December when Jess opened up her home to a few ladies. They are so sweet and lots of fun. Hope you can make it!
