happy first birthday auggie!

Back in early July, Auggie celebrated his first birthday [dohl] and I had the pleasure of some of the setup for his special event!

Just a bit of background information: Koreans believe that you can ‘predestine’ your future. Parents will line up a few objects and whatever object the child chooses, is his/her destiny. Here are some of the traditional items:

thread: a long life
jujube: many children
book, pencil, brush: scholar
ruler: talented with hands
money or rice: wealth

Nowadays, many parents add in modern items such as a golf club or a microphone.

I’ll have to find my pictures from my first birthday and post those up sometime!

the big 5!

Ryan’s turning 5 and his mom wanted a fun birthday invitation that wasn’t too kid-like. She picked this one out of the bunch.

I can’t imagine having a bunch of 5 year olds running around… haha…

happy 100th day!

My cousin's baby turned 100 days old the other day... and in the Korean heritage, it's a big celebration! Many years ago, it was a blessing to see a baby make it to 100 days because a lot of babies got sick and if they could make it to 100 days, chances were good that they would live a full life. And now, it's just a fun thing to celebrate [like a little birthday!]

Well she tends to make the cutest meals... she'll make bento boxes for her husband's lunch like these.

And this time, she made a little meal for Evan for his 100 days. [I stole this from her blog]. He can't even eat it... haha...

candy topiaries...

I saw this on MS crafts and thought this would so fun to add to your candy table or even centerpieces! Of course, the candy would have to match your decor. You could add candy to little glassine bags instead of the candy shown below and wrap them with paper or stickers with your monogram and have it match a lot better. :)

thoughtful specialty gifts...

My friend made me such a thoughtful gift! At first, I thought it was a table-top corkboard, but she corrected me quickly... She made me a jewelry stand!

Here it is with my jewelry all set up. Thanks Michelle - my crafty hands-on friend! I love it!   

This could be a very thoughtful gift for your bridesmaid or host! She took a photo frame, removed the glass, distressed the front of the frame, layered a luxurious piece of paper on the backing and hammered little knobs onto it, I think... If you had all the time in the world, little tiny frames for each guest would be a really kind and thoughtful guesture or maybe just for your bridal party!

32... and not counting anymore...

In honor of my 32 birthday, I decided to host a little party for my dear friends. I sent out invitations, decorated my home, made some simple food and of course, had a little party favor for each guest! I was thankful for all of those that could attend and saddened that some of my closest friends from SF, Philly, DC, and southern IL weren't able to join me! It was a good time of just hanging out with friends and also helped me not focus on how old I'm turning. haha... I think from here on out, I may host an intimate party each year just to appreciate my friends and all that they put up with throughout the year! [I'll go into details in the entries to come...]

a little treat for you!

how cute are these? i figured it out...

1. skewer large marshmellow
2. dip the marshmellows in softened/warmed chocolate and let it dry
3. remove the skewer and replace with a lollipop stick (or bamboo skewers work fine too)
4. dip the top part of the marshmellow in a colored chocolate (they sell this at michael's or other bakery supply stores)
4. sprinkle toppings as you wish and you can add an m&m on top or maybe those mini ones.

this could be a fun party favor or a topper on a plain white cake for kids of all ages!

gift packages

I started making gift packages. It's always nice to get a little bit of everything. so...you'll receive namecard flats, address labels, gift tags and book plates. Just let me know your gift receiver's favorite color and I'll try to incorporate as much of that as possible. :)

gift certificates

sometimes... you know what to get someone and sometimes you have no idea... well here's one solution... a gift certificate to just the little things! that's right... i was inspired to create a gift certificate. i'm not set on the idea... but here's 2 for starters... maybe i'll make a few different designs and you can choose which one is best.

these gift certificates also come all packaged up for your recipient to enjoy opening up... because really, it's always nice to open up a gift rather than a plain envelope!
