I had to stop by Babies R Us tonight for a last minute gift. [I’m finally figuring out my way around the store… seriously, a map like Ikea would be very helpful!] I think I walked up and down each aisle and just couldn’t find anything so I went with the usual books – Good Night Moon and Brown Bear Brown Bear. Believe it or not, they were sold out of the Very Hungry Caterpillar!
But a little further down, I found these books by Dwell Studio! They make such great products from baby to home products! I think I liked them because they are soft and not your typical kid books with primary colors.
ps… It took me a while to hunt down these images but remembered that they were published by Blue Apple Books. What a cute website!
Here’s an overall picture of the tent. It’s such a good thing we went with this because we had all sorts of odd weather that day. It rained, the sun peeked, and then we had this ferocious gust of wind as the party died down… I think some guests were expecting snow too!
:the 3 tents took up the entire backyard::
:popcorn + cotton candy machine:: These were a hit!
:more decorations:: I made this penant banner [it only made it half-way around the tent] based on these instructions. This was right up my alley since I still haven’t figured out how to use the sewing machine!
My friend is having her baby in November, but is also moving moved away to California this month, so we thought it would be best to have her shower before she left. We brainstormed and all she requested was to have a cotton candy machine. Well, one thing led to another and before you know it, cirque du bebe was born. I thought it was a little classier than a baby circus!
:invitations:: it’s supposed to look like a vintage entry ticket to an actual circus
:cupcakes:: in lieu of a cake, but each one had a picture of the mom and dad-to-be on each side when they were infants
:water bottles:: in 3 different designs
Back in early July, Auggie celebrated his first birthday [dohl] and I had the pleasure of some of the setup for his special event!
Just a bit of background information: Koreans believe that you can ‘predestine’ your future. Parents will line up a few objects and whatever object the child chooses, is his/her destiny. Here are some of the traditional items:
thread: a long life
jujube: many children
book, pencil, brush: scholar
ruler: talented with hands
money or rice: wealth
Nowadays, many parents add in modern items such as a golf club or a microphone.
I’ll have to find my pictures from my first birthday and post those up sometime!
I’ve fallen behind on any updates as well as keeping up with my online google reading, fb, and twitter… Once you fall behind, it’s so hard to catch up! Kind of feels like college in preparation for the first wave of exams: a bit overwhelming but this too shall pass. haha…
Lessons learned in the past few weeks:
1. Sleep is an absolute necessity: not just for the skin but for your sanity! I pulled all nighters and was delirious for the next few days.
2. But on that note, there’s nothing like an adrenaline rush to get you going… whether I slept a full night or zero hours, adrenaline got me through those days. Thank goodness!!
3. Floral designers amaze me. I don’t know how they do it!
4. Taking a day off from the computer is so nice. *Need to learn to turn off my BB email as well!
5. After all is said and done, when the guests of honor have smiles on their face, there is no greater reward for that day!
Here’s a glimpse of pictures to come:

Hope you had a lovely weekend. The weather was perfect in Chicago! No rain, whatsoever... which was a nice change. :)
On Saturday, sme friends had a baby shower. Here are some extra design elements.
: thank you cards + address labels : [which work out well since the envelopes are brown]
can't wait to meet you, baby park! :)
Do you remember that Cosby Show episode where Theo and Denise run into Stevie Wonder and are invited back to his studio to record with him? Stevie captures Cliff saying 'Baby' and mixes it into his soundtrack for their family. I get a kick out of that episode every time... maybe it's because Rudy is so darn cute!
Anyways, babies have been on my mind these days. Um... no, I'm not pregnant but a lot of people around me are! :)
Here are some recent baby shower designs I created:
: baby park : complete with address labels
party favor tags + banner to come after the shower in a few weeks
: baby jo : lots of more goodies to come as well after the shower!
